28.09.24 Creative labour seminar at the Thai Labour Museum
On Saturday 28 September 2024, we will be hosting a seminar on 'Creative labour in screen, publishing, audio visual translation and the re-composition of labour post-Covid-19'. Joining us are speakers from various expertise.
The first panel focuses on workers who traverse the spaces and screen from book and subtitles translation (Tongta Suthummaransi), film producer and part-time translator (Tanwarat Sombatwattana) to freelance writer and editorial board of The101.world (Pimchanok Puksuk).
The second panel covers the topic of labour re-composition, negotiation and communications. Speakers are a representative of the Thai Labour Museum (Wassana Lumdee), one of the founders of the Creative Workers Union Thailand (Ketnakorn Potchanaworapong) and the chair of Film Editors Association of Thailand (Manuss Worasing).
Following the conversations, there will also be a tour of the museum before their closure for renovation. As it is not a state funded museum, the fundraising is also being set up to help support the renovation and the work of the museum. 31.05.24 Celebrating Rilca's 50th Anniversary with our publication of key talks
To celebrate RILCA's 50th Anniversary, our research cluster will be launching a book of transcription of three key talks that took place in the last couple of years on key topics related to postcolonialism in Thailand, the sociopolitics of translation and urban landscapes and human geography. We have been kindly supported by all the guest speakers who helped check and revised the transcriptions. Hopefully, this book will be able to use as an introduction reading and a reference for future dialogues. The book will not be for sale but will be distributed to interested parties and libraries. The publishing process is kindly funded by the MU Cultural Quarter grant and Resarch Cluster grant.
08.12.23 Outdoor Film screening with live dubbing and an on-site talk on Thai leisure culture amidst social changes
The research cluster in collaboration with MU Cultural Quarter project has organized an outdoor film screening with live dubbing and an on-site talk in collaboration with the Thai Film Archive on the Thai lesisure culture through outdoor screenings post-pandemic.
Detective China Town (2015) in a live dubbed version along with archival footage provided by the Thai Film Archive of old film trailers and musical scences which were filmed in the Cold War era were appreciated by students and staff. The discussion also highlighted the return of this Cold War film culture post-pandemic with a series of screenings in Bankgok led by the new Bangkok governor and his team and various partners.
